Complex Oral Language through Integrated Thematic Instruction

Learn how to create a powerful learning environment that is alive with language for all children, especially Dual Language Learners (DLLs)!

  • Understand how language is essential for children to express themselves and why young DLLs need to develop language in both English AND in their home language.
  • Recognize the powerful roles educators play as language models in supporting children’s language development through meaningful and responsive interactions.
  • Identify the strategies needed to intentionally and systematically support the development of high-level oral language in both the social/interpersonal and content/academic realms.

Adapted from the Sobrato Early Academic Language (SEAL) Model.
