Families across California are feeling the effects of shifting national immigration policies. For young children in immigrant families — particularly those from marginalized communities — uncertainty about immigration enforcement can create real barriers to accessing early care and education (ECE), threatening their safety, development, and well-being.
California has taken action to protect these children. AB 495 is a California law that requires certain early care and education providers to adopt and enforce policies that protect the rights and safety of children in immigrant families. In response, the California Attorney General published Promoting Safe Early Childhood Education for All on Abril 1, 2026 — a guidance document with model policies to help ECE providers understand and comply with the requirements of AB 495.
This webinar will walk providers through what AB 495 means for their programs, what it requires, and how to build safe, welcoming spaces for all children and families — regardless of immigration status.
You will leave this webinar with:
- A clear understanding of AB 495, what it requires of ECE providers, and the protections it establishes for immigrant families
- Knowledge of the key components of a compliant safe space policy and practical steps to implement one for your program
- Helpful resources for you and the families you work with
