California Workforce Registry
Early childhood educators recognize the extreme importance of high quality care and education in the first five years of a child’s life, the major role it plays in early brain development and lasting difference it makes. Studies have shown that children who attend high quality early learning programs have better critical thinking skills, cooperate and engage better with others, do better in reading and math, and are more likely to graduate from high school and attend a four-year college.
Child care programs play a significant role in preparing children for school and beyond. A Child Care Aware study identified that 11 million children under the age of 5 are in some form of child care across the United States. The average time spent per week per child is 36 hours. An educator’s professional development and growth opportunities are critical to the well-being of the children, families, and communities in which they serve. In an attempt to understand and track these professional development and growth opportunities, partners across the state came together to create the California Early Care and Education Workforce Registry.
About the Workforce Registry
The California Workforce Registry is a web-based data system built to organize and promote the employment, education accomplishments, and professional development of early educators across the state. This collection of information helps to tell the story of how people enter into, and what it looks like to be a part of, the early education workforce.
Who uses the Workforce Registry
The registry is for anyone in the early childhood education (ECE) field including providers, teachers, aides, paraprofessionals, directors and administrators. It is also utilized by early education consultants, coaches, and advocates. For advocates and researchers, the collected data can be used to determine what the ECE field looks like across the state. It shows the work that is being accomplished and the resources, policy and program changes that are needed to better support providers.
What information does the Registry collect?
The Registry is a secure way for an educator to store their education and employment information. It allows users to create an individual professional profile to document and organize completed professional development hours and trainings taken. Account holders also share their employment information and education information like college courses, degrees, permits and credentials.
What are the benefits of using the Registry?
Through the registry, participants can:
- Build a professional profile that can be securely accessed and updated anytime.
- Electronically store education, training, employment and professional growth accomplishments, including transcripts, permits and other pertinent documents.
- Search for jobs.
- Search and sign up for trainings.
- Create a resume and share professional qualifications.
- Be recognized as an Early Care Education professional.
- Use Registry ID on Registry Membership Card when signing into trainings and submitting education and training data to ensure that the information is quickly attached to your profile.
How does Quality Start use the California Workforce Registry?
To bolster opportunities for early educators across San Bernardino County, Quality Start San Bernardino focuses heavily on offering applicable and varied trainings that engage the 12 California ECE core competencies. The competencies are twelve overlapping areas that define the optimal knowledge, skills, and mentalities conveyed by early educators. Trainings are organized and tracked through the Registry for which all QSSB participants are required to have an account. Find a training fit for you over on the QSSB calendar. Trainings are updated monthly.
