Bounce out that energy
Children love to watch as the ball they threw bounces around the room. Bouncy balls are a fun way to exhaust some energy and this DIY craft from The 36th Avenue allows kids to make their very own ball using simple household ingredients.
**A note on using borax, be careful your child doesn’t ingest this ingredient. **
Bouncy ball supplies
You will need:
½ Cup Warm Water
1 Tbsp Borax (can be found in the detergent aisle)
1 Tbsp Cornstarch
2 Tbsp White Liquid Glue
Food coloring
Bouncy ball instructions (adult supervision recommended)
Step 1: Mix the warm water and borax together in a cup.
Step 2: Use a different cup to mix together the glue, cornstarch, and food coloring.
Step 3: Pour the glue mixture into the cup with the borax and water mixture.
Step 4: The glue mixture will harden after about 10 seconds. Use a fork to take the clump out of the water. If the glue mixture is still sticky, squish it with your hands and dip it back in the water.
Step 5: Roll the mixture in your hands to make a ball. The more you handle the mixture the firmer it will become.
Step 6: You’re all done! Have fun throwing your homemade bouncy ball.
Something to keep in mind is that the ball will flatten a little after it’s been left sitting for a while. Store the bouncy ball in a plastic bag and, if it flattens, roll it between your hands again to bring it back to life.
